The latest addition to the Celebrity Cruises fleet, Celebrity Ascent, achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing her sea trials, bringing the ship one step closer to welcoming passengers.
Celebrity Cruises‘ newest ship Celebrity Ascent successfully completed her first open-ocean sailing during sea trials. These trials tested the ship’s maneuverability skills, and Ascent emerged with flying colors, marking a pivotal moment in her construction.
The Bay of Biscay near the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France served as the testing ground for Celebrity Ascent‘s sea trials. At the helm were the ship’s brother captains, Demetrios and Tasos Kafetzis, overseeing the intricate tests. Nearly 200 crew members were also on board to evaluate the ship’s equipment and systems, ensuring they met the highest standards.
Celebrity Ascent promises to deliver all the design features and onboard amenities that have made her predecessors, Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, and Celebrity Beyond, so popular with cruisers. However, the new ship raises the bar with newly designed restaurants, culinary experiences, reimagined entertainment venues, and much more.
Sailing from Ft. Lauderdale’s Port Everglades, Celebrity Ascent has several preview voyages lined up for guests.
On November 22, 2023, Ascent will embark on a special 4-night Western Caribbean preview voyage, followed by another 3-night Bahamas preview getaway on November 26, 2023.

To mark her maiden voyage, a celebratory 7-night Eastern Caribbean Maiden Voyage is scheduled to depart from Port Everglades on December 3, 2023. This will kick off the ship’s inaugural Caribbean season, featuring 7-night itineraries rotating between popular Eastern and Western Caribbean destinations, including the Bahamas, Mexico, Grand Cayman, San Juan, Tortola, and St. Kitts.
Following the Caribbean adventures, Celebrity Ascent will then set sail to the Mediterranean for the summer 2024 season. Among the planned itineraries are a 9-night Italian Riviera and France journey and a 12-night Best of Greece and Italy itinerary.
