The flagship of Explora Journeys, EXPLORA I, made her debut in the United States as she sailed into the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York City.
New York City’s iconic skyline served as the backdrop for a momentous occasion as the new cruise ship EXPLORA I made her maiden call at the port, marking the debut of Explora Journeys in the United States. EXPLORA I is the first of a planned fleet of six ships under the luxury travel brand of the MSC Group.
The maritime tradition of exchanging crests to celebrate a ship’s inaugural visit unfolded aboard the vessel at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Captain Diego Michelozzi, the ship’s master, and Captain Zeita Merchant, Commanding Officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York, joined in the symbolic ceremony.
“We are very proud to bring our extraordinary new ship, EXPLORA I, to New York City. New York City is one of the most important destinations in the Northeastern U.S., and it is an honor to showcase our highly anticipated new ship and luxury experience in the North American market,” Explora CEO Michael Ungerer stated in a press release.

Following this momentous occasion, EXPLORA I set sail on her inaugural East Coast US and Canada voyage. The itinerary includes calls in Boston, Massachusetts, and Saint John and Québec City in Canada. The luxury ship will then sail two additional 7-night journeys along the East Coast before making her way to Miami to begin the Caribbean season.

“Throughout these journeys, our guests will experience the authentic and bespoke experiences offered by Explora Journeys. With best-in-class service, exquisite onboard offerings, and immersive destination experiences, they will reach an ‘Ocean State of Mind.’ A balanced blend of on- and off-the-beaten-path destinations will allow our guests on EXPLORA I to indulge in authentic cultural experiences and a slower pace of travel, leaving them rejuvenated and inspired,” remarked Ungerer.
